Common Factors That Cause Running Injuries

Factors associated with running injuries:
• poor foot alignment mechanics
• strength and flexibility issues
• incorrect shoe gear
• over training
• terrain issues
Other considerations may include old or untreated orthopedic issues, improper nutrition, sleep deprivation and reduction of other stressors that cause injury. Needless to say there is no excuse for being proactive to avoid most injuries.
Properly designed well fitting orthotics and shoes for varying terrain can make the difference. Beyond the shoe, get your body in shape for running. Strengthen the entire lower extremity from the hip and core all the way down to your toes. A running shoe simply won’t solve all your problems, nor will orthotics that is not to say that a functional orthotic device can keep you on the road and alleviate the pain from a hammertoe or hallux valgus.
Your level of fitness, strength, flexibility and biomechanical foot needs are all considerations upon assessing what type of shoe or orthosis is needed.
It all comes down to good form, well aligned bio-mechanics, good strength, flexibility and not over doing it.
Don’t let any foot condition go more than a week to ten days, consult a podiatrist and take care of your self.
